WALK FOR THE CURE!

On Saturday the 15th of October, 2011 I did the Susan G Komen walk for the Cure 3 mile walk in Miami and it was AH-FRICK-IN MAZIN'! The crowd began to assemble around 5:30/6am and the streets were already blocked off making way for the hundreds of thousands of people that were going to walk for the cure.  I of course got there late, (I promise this time was not my fault.  I arrived in the Miami area at or about 7:20am but now I know that that time is just too late.  Off the I95 Biscayne Blvd Exit traffic was backed up for miles and the traffic continued until I got a parking spot exactly a half hour later.

The registration line was long but flowing and once registered you were asked if you were a survivor or not the reply was no but was given a survivor teeshirt anyway.  It didn't matter to me however because I was expecting to get a teeshirt from D'Limers team (the team I registered and would be walking with).  Before 8am there were ALL TYPES of sponsors! There was New Balance, Nike, News Channels, etc. Each sponsor had something to give out, for free, all in the hopes of spreading the word and educating as many as they could about breast cancer.  Everything given was in what I now call breast cancer pink and the togetherness was just something I can not describe.

D'Limers was a team that stood out from the rest we had (what they called) a Caribbean Gold colored teeshirt.  It had those who played in Giselle 'Wassi' Blanche's band Wassi Ones who wore their Miami Carnival head pieces.  We walked to the tune of Wassi's mouth and her radio (which is always entertaining). When the walk was over D'Limers had food, drink, dessert and music for entertainment.  DJ and all!!!!

I loved seeing all my caribbean people doing this for a greater good. I just wished that more people could sign up and WALK for this cause.  So this year, I will not only register EARLY but I'm getting the word out.  Its as follows:
