HEAD LICE NOW WELCOMED IN SCHOOLS
While at work today, I had the radio on my normal station (its great for listening while I work). Every hour or so, the listeners are updated on weather, traffic and local news. TODAY I was appalled.
The doctors all are following suit and are now allowing children to stay in school when they are lice infested. I know that doctors are considered intelligent people and all but this is just crazy! If an infected child is not excused by his/her doctor to stay home and is basically forced to go to school, how will the uninfected children be safe and stay uninfected? Lice are very easy to catch or spread and very hard to get rid of. What do you think? Should children be not only allowed but basically forced to attend school once as the parent can prove the lice are being treated?

Its a shame that the school boards feel the need to pull children out of school for utter nonsense, yet when they have something like LICE they are urged to come to school and spread it. Maybe if children were in school for "teacher planning days" and "professional 'study' days" they wouldn't feel the need to force these infested children into school.

TRIBE - THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR!
Oh my goodness what a night!
I wasn't even in Trinidad last night for the long awaited band launch of TRIBE/ BLISS and there was just soooo much going on right here in my bedroom! I attempted to watch the live feed that the infamous Sauce of http://www.trinidadcarnivaldiary.com/ through Triniscene.com had online but my computer wanted to misbehave. It was constantly going in and out and it was so frustrating that I just decided to just wait on her review and pictures after the launch.
From her pictures I got to see the costumes that were for the most part DEAD ON with the WARRIOR theme. These five pictures were captured from TRIBE's website and I have 2 favorites. My first favorite is the 1st picture shown XI'AN WARRIORS frontline OR backline. The 2nd favorite was the 2nd picture posted, PERSIAN GOLD frontline.
Not much to say other than that as I choose not to comment on costumes that I did not see in person. The other costumes posted were of those that I found either VERY sexy or caught my attention. All in all though, two thumbs up for TRIBE! Lets see the madness begin in a week or two for the bands registration process. Good luck!
Who knows, I may just be a XI'AN WARRIOR or PERSIAN GOLD for Carnival 2011.

EY EY WE COME TA RAMAJAY!!!!
By now you've HAD to hear of RAMAJAY!!!!
Whether it's been from some 'Trini ole talk', the new Lyrikal number, the 2009 Machel Montano hit chune now remixed by Machel Montano and Pitbull or maybe, just maybe the HOT New York City carnival mas band they both endorsed with these songs...........RAMAJAY MAS!!!
RAMAJAY MAS is a mas band managed by GB God Bless Productions and D'Original Diva's Entertainment merged together to what is now known as TEAM GB. TEAM GB formed RAMAJAY MAS because there was a void in the WIADCA parade (Labor Day parade) held annually on Labor Day in Brooklyn, New York. They felt like the "masqueraders are not able to have a totally ultra-inclusive experience on the road." I, along with many agree with that statement. For that same reason many of the die hard masqueraders choose to revel in the jouvert and leave the 'parkway' alone. The goal of RAMAJAY MAS was to change that and in 2009, they opened the eyes of many. Their slogan is dare to be different and that they were.
The debut year of RAMAJAY MAS took New York by storm AND surprise. When masqueraders got wind of what was REALLY going on it was a state of confusion. I watched people try to sin their souls to get back their deposit money from other mas bands to register with RAMAJAY MAS. The presentation of AMAZONIA was entered into competition and landed 2nd place in Large Band Of The Year to Sesame Flyers. I wont get into the politics (for now anyway). This year, they will be doing it again with LAFEMME: REVEAL THE MYSTERY OF WOMAN. The name alone sounds sexy and intriguing. It will be a celebration of the different Goddesses, Queens and Deities over history as far back as EVE to me and you. Expressing visually their "fiery seduction, exceptional grace, outstanding exquisiteness and mystifying power" in the words of RAMAJAY MAS. Lets bring it on! Lets see who wins 1st place this year WIADCA!

Of these sections, I was only able to show a few but I think you'll agree that the body has to be IN ORDER! There are cuts, curves and bold dives. From the wire/caged bras to the barely there to nowhere belts. Have no fear though, there are monokinis/tankinis and wholepiece options for those not so daring. There is something in the band for everybody. On so many of the costumes I can get into the beautiful stones, feather placement and color combinations but I will leave that to you.

ISLAND PEOPLE BAND LAUNCH DATE
The wait is finally over for most of you huh?
Save the date. Friday the 20th of August marks the date that Island People Mas will be revealing their Shades Of The Universe.
I was one of the people that knew of the launch date but although I was reliably informed, I was also sworn to secrecy. However, I feel the need to no longer keep my lips sealed as the IslandPeople Mas Group page on facebook revealed this picture last night!
The plan was to be in Trinidad to take numerous pictures of the band launch but not everything happens as planned. Thank God for trinidadcarnivaldiary.com!!! Bigups to the Sauce!!

REALLY? YOU PUT HIM IN HIS GRAVE BEFORE TIME?
Imagine the horror when I got the phonecall today that alerted me that Sparrow, the Almighty Sparrow died. I am not one that usually runs out and believes ANYTHING that I hear but this one was believable because I knew that he has been suffering with his health for some time now and it was not too far fetched. Along with the news coming from Trinidad. Well, I am happy to announce that the Almighty Sparrow although not 100% is very much alive and kicking!!!! As a matter of fact he was well enought to perform!

SPA CELEBRATIONS GRAND OPENING
As a new blogger, I had to promise some of my friends and family alike to NOT blog about them, their personal experiences or the "little" things I 'overhear'. But for the 1st time (and probably wont be the last) I have to break that promise.
Okay, let me just put it out there that before Christmas of 2009 I have never waxed ANYTHING and after doing so I vowed then, that that one time would be my first and last time. So my dear friend just became an esthetician and joined onboard with SPA CELEBRATIONS. SPA CELEBRATIONS held their grand opening yesterday at 6pm and I promised that I would come in eventually but what a better time than the GRAND OPENING? So naturally, I didn't tell her I would be coming so I could be unexpected. To expect nothing and blog EVERYTHING.
Upon entering the spa I was in awe. The place looks really nice and homely, at first glance of the color combination of the purple, teal and chocolate then the general set up, I instantly thought DISCOUNT. Not discount as in the place looked cheap but that I would need a discount to be able to afford the wax and facial I was about to receive. I noticed an array of refreshments but didn't have time to help myself because the owner, a quite happy and bubbly spirited lady took me for a quick 'tour' of the place explaining a little about the place and where I'd be getting what done. Generally, SPA CELEBRATIONS is a family orientated spa. They cater to the entire family. I didn't too much question about men as MY husband wouldn't be caught dead in a spa. After my 'tour', I went off with my esthetician Ms Clara 'Pinky' Ruiz (who by the way was surprised) who then began to pamper me. After vowing to NEVER AGAIN be in a chair to have a Brazilian done, there I was again. SMH. Ms Ruiz assured me that everything would be 'just fine'. I am no regular or professional so she explained to me that the products used at SPA CELEBRATIONS were more gentle on the skin and YES, THEY WERE. Both my wax and facial had me at a new understanding of where, who and what used to do any kind of body therapy can determine how good or bad of an experience you have.
Overall, SPA CELEBRATIONS has proven to me that skin care, products and definitely price makes a pampering completely doable. On average, not too many people can smile after a Brazilian. I am not one of the girlie girl types that does this on the regular cause if I said I was I'd be lying to you. But, for every carnival date that I plan on being in attendance, SPA CELEBRATIONS can count on me being there. Next up, September for Labor Day!!!

Who's zuming who?
I don't know HOW I didn't see it before, especially with all the excitement surrounding the breakaway band from Island People called YUMA but I just discovered that YUMA will be causing a bit of a stir. LOL. YUMA and SPICE will be holding their official band launchings on the same day! It will be rather interesting to see what will happen that night. YUMA has the advantage of being the newbie band that will want to go that extra mile to try wowing and wooing the crowd. They also have people designing for them that other band leaders would rather they NOT have and are pissed off that they do. I mean designers that have worked in both TRIBE, SPICE and ISLAND PEOPLE!!!!! SPICE has the advantage of being around the block a couple times and when I say couple I really mean couple. This is only their third year! In their 1st year SPICE did GREAT with their customer service, prices and most of all costumes. Which leads me to their downfall, I don't know if the success went to their heads but the 2nd year with SPICE was nothing but a set of horror stories and many people are just too threw with them. The downfall to YUMA is in part what their advantage is, that they are just that.............a newbie band. Urgh! I wish I were in Trinidad right now to witness both bands unfold. I would be like the chicken with no head running from one launch to another. Well, I will let you know what I find out! Which one will YOU go to if you were in Trinidad?
